Primary Grade School Program

FIRST GRADE - SECOND GRADE - THIRD GRADE
Program Overview
The primary elementary school grades are first, second, and third. St. Vincent Ferrer's primary school program places focus on the religious and spiritual formation of children through instruction, example, prayer, and service to others. In addition, there is a strong focus placed on early literacy. These critical years
emphasize learning to read, laying the foundation for later, when students are required to read to learn.  In math, we focus on developing fundamental skills so students have the tools they need to succeed in higher-level math as they get older.  Each student is assessed three times a year to monitor their progress in both reading and math. The results guide teachers and support staff to provide instruction that meets each student's needs, helping them reach their full potential.

Highlights of the Primary School grades include:
  • Weekly Mass and daily prayer
  • Weekly Bible class for first and second grade, in addition to daily Religion
  • Center-Based Learning
  • Learning about and praying the Rosary
  • Sacramental Preparation and Celebration of First Reconciliation and First Communion (Gr. 2)

  • Differentiated instruction
  • Access to Instructional aides and volunteers
  • iReady standardized assessment
  • Access to IXL and other instructional programs
  • Educational Field Trip Experiences
  • UFLI, Science of Reading, and Phonics Instruction for first and second grade
