SUPPORT BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
At St. Vincent Ferrer, we take pride in meeting the needs of all of our students. The faculty and staff work collaboratively with student services staff to provide accommodations and monitor student progress.  ​ ​

Intervention Specialist:  Jessica Hansen
Our intervention specialist works five days a week to provide:
  • Classroom support to teachers and students
  • Small group and targeted instruction (Tier II Support)
  • Intensive, individualized instruction (Tier III Support
  • Testing accommodations
  • Organizational support
  • Student benchmark assessment using STAR Reading, STAR Math, and DIBELS


Instructional Aides:  
Lori Dooley, Susan Harder, Laurie Howley, and Sheila Seider

St. Vincent Ferrer School has four instructional aides who work throughout the week with students and teachers in first through sixth grade. These aides work together to provide St. Vincent Ferrer School with five full days of support. Throughout the week, they:
  • Support teachers and students in the classroom during whole-class instruction, small-group instruction, and centers
  • Pull students, individually or in small groups, for remedial and enrichment instruction as needed
  • Assist with student benchmark assessments
  • Provide test accommodations

Mental Health Specialist:  Emily Ryan
The School Counselor helps students reach their potential in academic and social-emotional development. Mrs. Ryan is at St. Vincent Ferrer weekly, on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Services can be provided to students individually or in groups, depending on what is best for each student and the situation they face. She works to:
  • Support students with transitions and adjustments
  • Works with students to develop friendship skills
  • Guides students through conflict resolution
  • Provides support to students experiencing family changes
  • Helps students develop positive communication skills
  • Assists students as they develop stress management skills
  • Aides students in setting academic and personal goals

Speech and Language Pathologist: Ginger Nolan
The Speech Language Pathologist provides services to students twice a week:
  • Screens students for speech and language concerns
  • Conducts standardized and informal speech and language assessments
  • Provides intervention services and/or special education services to identified students in one-to-one and small group settings
  • Writes Individual Service Plans for identified students
  • Provides consultation to classroom teachers for effective speech/language modeling in the classroom

Title I Reading Specialist: Carrie Wendel

The Title I Reading Specialist provides services to students twice a week:
  • Targeted reading instruction
  • Assess students who need extra support to develop individualized support plans
  • Work one-on-one or in small groups with students to support their learning
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to provide reading support that helps students access grade- and content-level curriculum


Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship Program:
The Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship Program (JSPN) allows parents to send their child to special education programs other than those run by their school district of residence. Once enrolled in their school of choice, the children can receive the education and services outlined in their individualized education program (IEP).
